Broad Overview
We have THREE interlocking initiatives:
- Community Center – open 6 days/week
- People Helping People V2V program
- Seniors Walk Free at the Y Our next initiatives will be more health & wellness-related
How is your age-friendly initiative structured?
We are a funded program within a non-profit Foundation. We have a steering committee of 2 members, 2 volunteers, the volunteer Director and the paid Coordinator; Members & Volunteers meet 2x month to coordinate needs and services.
Describe any partnerships you have developed?
We partner with the YMCA for our “Seniors Walk Free at the Y” program. We partner with our sister organization—the Community Center, which we use as our “office” and meeting space. We partner with the following local service organizations: FISH (Friends in Service Helping) for rides to medical appointments; District Nurse and Community Paramedics for weekly visits to our members; Food Pantry & Community Gardens for nutritious food; Boothbay Region Community Resources Council for their social worker (Community Navigator); Rebuilding Together for help with repairs; Rotary Club’s Elder Forum to coordinate among all non-profits serving seniors; Elder Care Network for Senior Living & home care; Lincoln Health and other local physicians for medical care.
