Mission, Vision & Goals

The mission of the AmeriCorps Somerset County Program is to improve the health and well-being of low income seniors and adults in central and northern Maine. We empower community members to use available health and social resources, set realistic goals and problem solve barriers to accessing services.

Broad Overview

AmericCorp Somerset County provides evidence based facilitated classes related to health issues. Community Health Workers are located in medical offices & do community outreach addressing several barriers. The initiative has a focus on volunteer mobilization.

Americorp Somerset County/Medical Care Development grant has partnered with Somerset Public Health, Kennebec Behavioral Health, HealthReach Community Clinics, Hospice Volunteers of Somerset County, Redington-Fairview General Hospital, and Senior Strong Committee.

What is the role of volunteers?

Our services are provided by AmeriCorps members who are volunteers within a national service program.

Types of funding that your initiative has received

AmeriCorps Somerset County is sponsored by the Maine Commission for Community Service. The Maine Commission for Community Service builds capacity and sustainability in Maine's volunteer and service communities. Funding for AmeriCorps Somerset County is provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Community Initiatives

Family, Caregiving Support & Respite

Our AmeriCorps members work one-on-one with seniors or their family members to talk about what issues they want help with and support them in accessing available resources.


We have a special focus on connecting seniors with primary care providers, food support service and opportunities for social engagement like volunteering.
